Nuclear Medicine Policy and Procedure Manual

Nuclear medicine is a branch of medical imaging that uses small amounts of radioactive material to diagnose and determine the severity of a variety of diseases, including many types of cancers, heart disease, gastrointestinal, endocrine, neurological disorders and other abnormalities within the body. A radioisotope is injected into the patient and the nuclear medicine system detects the presence of the isotope and builds an image from the dection data. The information can be captured from several vantage points by the detector head which allow for a 3-D image of the body area.

Shared Imaging Services uses GE Healthcare Nuclear Medicine scanning equipment. All of our nuclear medicine equipment is installed in the hospitals that we serve.
